Specimen Tree Planting for Commercial & Residential Sites

From container stock to large-caliper tree spade installations, G&G Landscape plants trees that establish fast and hold up in Wyoming's climate.

Service Overview

The Right Trees, Installed Right

G&G Landscape handles tree planting for commercial developments, municipal projects, HOA common areas, and residential properties across Gillette, Sheridan, Buffalo, Casper, Douglas, Sundance, and Spearfish. We source and install deciduous and evergreen species selected for hardiness in USDA zones 3–5.

Our crews plant everything from 5-gallon container stock to large-caliper specimens moved by tree spade. Each installation includes proper root ball preparation, backfill, staking, and an initial watering regimen designed to give the tree the strongest possible start. We coordinate with nurseries and growers to secure healthy stock, and we time deliveries so trees go in the ground at the right point in the season.

Whether a project spec calls for a row of boulevard ash, a windbreak of Colorado spruce, or a single focal-point oak, G&G Landscape has the equipment and field knowledge to get it planted, staked, and growing.

How We Work

Our Tree Planting Process

  1. Species Selection

We review site conditions, project specs, and long-term goals to recommend species that perform in Wyoming. Soil type, sun exposure, wind patterns, and mature canopy size all factor into the selection.

  2. Site Assessment

Our crew evaluates the planting locations for utility conflicts, drainage patterns, and existing root zones. We confirm hole depths and spacing to match each species' requirements.

  3. Delivery & Placement

Trees are transported from the nursery with root balls intact and protected. Large-caliper specimens are moved by tree spade directly to the prepared holes. Container stock is staged on-site for efficient planting.

  4. Planting & Staking

Each tree is set at the correct depth, backfilled with amended soil as needed, and staked with flexible ties to allow trunk movement while preventing wind throw. Trunk protection is installed where needed.

  5. Mulching & Watering

A proper mulch ring is applied to retain moisture and regulate soil temperature. We deep-water each tree at planting and provide watering instructions or connect to existing irrigation zones.

Common Questions

Tree Planting FAQ

When is the best time to plant trees in Wyoming?

Spring (April through early June) and fall (September through mid-October) are the strongest planting windows. Spring planting gives roots a full growing season to establish before winter. Fall planting works well for many deciduous species because the tree can focus energy on root growth as the canopy goes dormant. We avoid planting in midsummer heat and frozen ground conditions.

What tree species do you recommend for northeast Wyoming?

Species selection depends on the site, but common performers in this region include Colorado blue spruce, ponderosa pine, bur oak, green ash, cottonless cottonwood, and native chokecherry. For windbreaks, we often use rows of Rocky Mountain juniper or Scotch pine. We match species to soil conditions, available water, and the project's functional goals—whether that's shade, screening, wind protection, or aesthetics.

What survival rates should we expect?

Properly selected and installed trees in this region typically see survival rates above 90% through the first two years when watered correctly. The biggest risks are underwatering during the first summer and root damage from improper handling. G&G Landscape uses careful transport methods and installs every tree with a watering plan to give it the best chance of long-term establishment.

What aftercare do newly planted trees need?

New trees need consistent deep watering for the first two growing seasons—typically once per week during dry periods. Stakes should remain in place for one year, then be removed to allow the trunk to strengthen naturally. Mulch should be maintained in a ring around the base, kept a few inches away from the trunk to prevent rot. We provide specific aftercare instructions for every species we install.
